Breast Lift Tacoma WA
A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a cosmetic surgery procedure aimed at recreating a youthful shape of the breasts. This is done by raising the nipple to a higher position while simultaneously reshaping the breast by removing the excess skin from the bottom third of the breast. A mastopexy does not reduce the breast size or volume, because no breast tissue is removed during this procedure. The only tissue removed is the excess skin. A mastopexy is an outpatient surgery that can take anywhere between 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on the patient’s size and anatomy. Patients go home from recovery room on oral pain medications. There are no dressing changes or wound care required after this surgery, as all the sutures are buried under the skin.

Scars
The most important determinant of scar length in surgery is the degree of preoperative ptosis of the breast. Ptosis (colloquially called “droopiness”) refers to the degree of descent of the nipple below its original anatomic position on the breast. It is also closely correlated with the amount of excess skin. The greater the ptosis, the more excess skin has to be removed and the longer the scar will be. In a woman with minimal ptosis, the scar can be limited to the junction between the breast skin and the areola skin. This is called a periareolar (or circumareolar) scar. With more ptosis, an additional vertical scar from the areola down may be necessary, which is referred to as the “lollipop” scar because of its scape. In cases of more severe ptosis, another scar, placed in the crease under the breast, is required, which forms the scar known as “anchor” shape.
